Cars
Nov 16th, 2007 by Tim Skipper
Cars have been a big passion of mine for a long time, long before I could drive. I was fortunate enough to have generous parents who bought me my first car, a Ford Fiesta 1.1L brand new. Thanks Mum & Dad!
I started driving on my 17th birthday; May 26th 1987. Do you know how much petrol cost then? I’ll tell you. I spent £10.00 on 4 star petrol (unleaded? What’s that?) on that first day and it put 25.89 litres of petrol in the fuel tank. Yes, that’s 38.6 pence per litre!
On the 6th August 1987 I passed my driving test, and from that day onwards if I wasn’t asleep or eating, then I was out driving. Somehow I managed to fit four years of College and a part-time job into that as well. In the first year I drove 24,300 miles. By the time I sold my Fiesta on 24th June 1991 I had driven it 73,075 action packed miles.
